General Info

Located in the heart of Kumamoto, Sri Lanka Kumamoto is a cozy Sri Lankan restaurant that offers a warm and relaxed dining experience. Tucked into the lively Shimotori area, this spot feels welcoming from the moment you step inside. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, making it ideal for solo dining or a quiet meal after exploring nearby shops and streets. The restaurant’s location is convenient for both locals and travelers who want something a little different from the typical dining options in the city.

The menu focuses on authentic Sri Lankan flavors, and the star of the lineup is the スリランカカレー (Sri Lankan curry). Rich, aromatic, and full of spice, the curry reflects the bold character of Sri Lankan cuisine while remaining approachable for first-time visitors. Each bite feels layered and balanced, with flavors that build gradually rather than overwhelm the palate. It’s the kind of dish that keeps you going back for another spoonful.

Another standout from the menu is the オリジナルサラダ (original salade). Light and refreshing, it pairs well with the deeper flavors of the curry and adds a nice contrast to the meal. If you’re looking to explore a bit more, the サバコロッケ (mackerel croquette) offers a satisfying savory option. Crispy on the outside and soft inside, it brings together comforting textures and a slightly rich seafood taste that works surprisingly well alongside the restaurant’s other dishes.

Dessert lovers will also find plenty to enjoy here. The yogurt ice dessert has a gentle tang that feels refreshing after a spicy meal, while classic ice cream options make for a simple but satisfying finish. Whether you’re stopping by for a full meal or just something sweet, the dessert selection adds a nice closing touch to the experience.

Service is straightforward and convenient. The restaurant offers delivery, which makes it easy to enjoy Sri Lankan flavors even when you prefer to stay in. Inside the space, the cozy layout encourages relaxed dining, and practical amenities like a restroom ensure a comfortable visit. Because of the welcoming atmosphere, it’s a place where solo diners can feel completely at ease.

Reviews from visitors often mention the friendly environment and the comforting feel of the space. The balance between flavorful cooking and a relaxed setting makes Sri Lanka Kumamoto stand out among dining locations in the area. From the bold Sri Lankan curry to refreshing desserts, the menu reflects a thoughtful mix of authentic taste and approachable comfort, creating a memorable dining experience in Kumamoto.

What customers say?

“ First time trying Sri Lankan food in Japan so I can’t really speak to the taste. Located on the second floor, the restaurant was small and a bit outdated. They have a nice set for 1,500¥ which includes a salad, a choice of main dish, drink, and small desert. Asides from 1 other customer, the restaurant was empty. Everything came out quickly. Be careful when selecting spice level if you’re used to spicy food from this region! ”

“ Very tasty curries. We ordered the lunch set and the salad and ice cream were also nice. The service was friendly and efficient. Recommended. ”

“ A good place to grab some lunch in Kumamoto. The Sri Lankan curries are very tasty - and surprisingly spicy (you can ask for it to be milder, which is a good idea if you're not used to spicy food). At ¥900 for lunch (including a drink and the ubiquitous bowl of shredded lettuce) it's affordable too. The place is in a side road, opposite Tsutaya. ”

“ You can enjoy hot and spicy curry and meet friendly Sri Lankan staff members here! ”

“ I wanted to try something Desi, and Spicy South Asian and here is what I found from a brochure for Muslims Visiting Kumamoto. It was first time experience of authentic SriLankan food and I liked it. Good thing is they serve Halal food for anyone looking for it in Kumamoto. ”

“ Service could be better, it seems that the waiter was the first day at his job. The food was too spicy, even though we asked to do it less spicy. ”
